Solar system of SMK(P) Sri Aman

It was our “Curriculum Week”, all kinds of activities were carried out. One of it is to introduce our solar system where we are actually the first school in Malaysia with solar system. The following pictures explain how it was done.

A form 4 class was brought to a laboratory to show a power point presentation about the history of building solar system, how it converts solar energy to electrical energy, how much of energy can be generated, etc.

The Penolong Kanan Ko-kurikulum was invited to officiate “Unit Solar” of Curriculum week

The Penolong Kanan Ko-kurikulum sat with the girls to view the power point

The girls are paying full attention to the power point presentation because they were to answer some quiz questions about the solar system. Prizes are given to the winners

This is one of the slides which shows how is solar energy converted into electrical energy

The head of Maths and Science Department is showing the PK Kokurikulum how much of electrical energy is generated (from the meter)

A closed look of the solar cells

She explains : “those are solar cells”

She explains the flow chart of generation of electrical energy from solar energy to give them an overall picture

This was an interesting and a knowledgeable activity done in my school, SMK(P) Sri Aman last year.

Experiment in progress

Students enjoy doing experiment as can be seen from these pictures but guidance from teacher will enhance their understanding.

Experiment on thermochemistry- Exothermic and Endothermic reaction

Guiding students on correct way of taking temperature

Analysing the Chemical Content of Food

Chemical for consumers topic can be made more interesting when students bring canned or bottled food; tomato sauce or any food label and then categorise the food content into preservatives, antioxidants, flavouring agent, stabilisers, thickening agents and colouring agents.

PowerPoint Presentation by Students During P&P

PowerPoint presentation is a group work done by students for topics such as uses of chemicals in industry and consumers, historical development of pereodic table and atomic structure. Students are encouraged to make their PowerPoint simple with lots of diagram and to the point. Then each group will take turn to present to the class. Marks will be given to the group as part of their formative mark which is 25% of the total marks in their test and exam.

Curriculum Week: "Program Senyum"

"Program Senyum" is a yearly Science programme carried out during the Curriculum Week. Groups of students with the guidance of their Chemistry teachers come out with project and exhibit to be shown to all students in the school. Students develop their soft skills, interpersonal skill and tramwork during this week. A break from the daily routine of T&L can be a refreshing one.

Growing "silver tree" using the displacement reaction of a reactive metal and silver solution

Student explaining the displacement reaction to our PK Akademik and Ketua Bidang Sains dan Matematik

Our PK had a try at producing fire cracker by grinding sulphur powder

Exhibit during our Curriculum Week

Using properties of acid and base, students turned water to grape juice, then to milk and finally to frenzy drink
